Originally a stand-alone descriptor, marketers started adding “SUV” in an effort to create a broader understanding and appeal. The proliferation of SUV-like vehicles in the late twentieth century gave rise to the term crossover to help delineate between truck-based and car-based vehicles. Since then, the term SUV-or some form of it-has been stretched to have a much broader definition, including smaller unibody vehicles like the Jeep Grand Cherokee. The Q3’s system is easier to use, but its positioning is a problem. In terms of the infotainment unit, Audi offers an 8.8-inch or a 10.1-inch touchscreen on the Q3, whereas the XC40 gets a 9.0-inch touchscreen. The standard cargo space offered in the XC40 is more than that on the Q3, but the low lift height on the Q3 makes loading/unloading cargo easier than on the XC40. As standard, the XC40 is equipped with an 8-speed transmission. The T4 engine comes with FWD, whereas the T5 model with AWD is an optional extra for $2,000. The 2022 Volvo XC40 SUV comes standard with a 2.0L turbocharged engine that either outputs 187 hp and 221 lb-ft of torque, (T4) or 248 hp with 258 lb-ft of torque (T5).
